Effective April 1, 2023, Vania Di Stefani will take over the reins of Oil Spill Response Limited (OSRL) as the company’s CEO. Di Stefani brings more than 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with a strong background in engineering, operations and process safety, the company said in its statement.
Di Stefani’s career began at Imperial College, where he led the scientific team responsible for the development of fire and explosion models. She later joined BP where she held various executive positions and most recently served as Vice President of Operations for Mauritania and Senegal.
OSRL notes that in his role for BP, Di Stefani led geographically and culturally diverse teams and played a key role in the response to the Deepwater Horizon incident in the Gulf of Mexico. Di Stefani has also led operational crises in other regions, including Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Di Stefani has a master’s degree in Process Engineering from the University of Padua and a doctorate in Thermophysics from the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Mines in Paris. Her technical expertise and leadership skills make her an excellent choice for OSRL, the company said.
“I am excited to join the OSRL team and lead this organization that plays a critical role in environmental protection and oil spill response,” said Vania. “I look forward to working with our employees, customers and stakeholders to advance OSRL’s mission and continue to provide world-class oil spill response services.”
“We are delighted to have Vania join us as our new CEO,” said Astrid Sorensen, Chair of OSRL’s Board of Directors. “His deep experience in the oil and gas industry, as well as his proven track record of leadership and technical expertise, will be invaluable as we continue to expand our services and support the needs of our members and customers.”
The appointment comes at an exciting time for OSRL as the organization looks to build on its strong foundations and expand its services to meet the growing demand for oil spill response and preparedness, the release said.
“I am delighted to welcome Vania as our new CEO and look forward to working closely with her to ensure a smooth transition and continue to drive OSRL’s mission forward,” said Robert Limb, Oil’s outgoing CEO Spill Response Limited. “His extensive experience and expertise in the oil and gas industry will be invaluable as OSRL navigates the evolving oil spill response and preparedness landscape.”
