Tadano is increasing its service capacity with Iveco Daily vans

When it comes to importing and distributing high quality lifting equipment in Australia, Tadano is easily one of the leading players in its industry.
Tadano not only sells equipment for the mining, construction and civil engineering industries, but also offers after-sales support as an option for customers.
Until recently, service crews arrived on site in utes loaded with tools, to fix everything from off-road, rough terrain, aerial work platforms, city, loader, lattice crawler, telescopic crawler and truck cranes .
Now, thanks to a change of direction on the part of management, they have a choice of four Iveco Daily vans able to more easily transport the tools they need.
Tadano Oceania project manager – customer service, Michael Kobilke, says the vans broke the mold of the traditional vehicles used by the company.
Michael has worked in the industry for over 35 years both in Australia and overseas; also has experience both as an OEM of crane equipment and as a user of cranes in private companies.
He also started in the industry as a field service technician, so he has a thorough understanding of what works best in terms of support vehicles.
“One of the main reasons we chose the Iveco Daily was because of the extra space and cargo capacity the models offered,” says Kobilke.
“The vans have a volume of 12 m³ and have plenty of space for storage and shelving as well as a work bench; the dimensions of the Daily allow technicians up to a height of 188 cm (6 ft 2 “) about. at the back to do any work they might need, and a GVM of 4,495kg on both the van and cab chassis provides a significantly higher payload than standard utility vehicles.”
“A braked towing capacity of 3,500kg also offers the ability to tow a service trailer containing oils and lubricants, compressors, oil pumps and used oil tanks – everything we need to carry out a full service on site,” explains Michael.
Kobilke says the company is switching to vans because of the extra security they offer. The requirements for the Iveco Daily’s cab chassis were slightly different as this will exclusively service mining customers in the WA Pilbara and is better suited to this application.
The new vans are a hit with service crews |
“Van service vehicles are more common in Europe and we wanted to reflect that here – given the spare parts, specialist tools and consumables we carry, it made more sense to go for a closed and secure environment,” he says.
“The vans are also equipped with inverters that allow technicians to power a range of sensitive equipment, including computer systems. Other accessories include additional interior and exterior lighting to make working in the dark easier and safer.”
The new Tadano Cranes Dailys are equipped with the 180 HP / 430 Nm Iveco Euro6 engine mated to an 8-speed fully automatic.
Kobilke says going full automatic was an easy choice.
“Increasingly many of the younger drivers do not have a manual license or regularly drive traditional manuals, so we wanted to provide them with a comfortable and stress-free driving environment, just like the car does,” he says.
“The Iveco Daily has a car-like interior and driving characteristics: you can drive long distances in them and not get tired like you would in a light truck with a light cab.
“Safety is an important consideration for us as a company, so it was important to minimize fatigue while providing technicians with a full suite of active and passive safety equipment, including four airbags, advanced emergency braking and ESP9 (Iveco stability technologies package).
The new Dailys are expected to cover up to 45,000 kilometers per year in various conditions.
The space allows safe and secure transportation of tools |
While the cab chassis will be based in the Pilbara, the vans will be based in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland respectively.
“This new investment in vehicles is an important pillar for Tadano Oceania’s growth strategies: the importance of being customer-centric allows us to target areas where we can improve customer experience touchpoints together with providing a safe and efficient workspace for our team,” says Kobilke.
The vehicles were purchased from the IVECO dealer, Adtrans Truck Center in Melbourne.
