As far as single-make sports car racing goes, the MSCC Miata Spec Series stands out as the only one of its kind. For 2023, Mazda Philippines and the Manila Sports Car Club (MSCC) have announced their return after the success of the series last year. The series is billed as MSCC’s official racing event that will host 22 racers aboard tuned Mazda MX-5 sports cars.
Mazda Philippines President and CEO Steven Tan has expressed his eagerness to continue the streak in 2023.
“This one-brand format provides a unique opportunity for MSCC members to hone their skills and enjoy the pure essence of driving that only an MX-5 can provide,” commented Tan.
The 2023 season will see the return of inaugural season overall champion Allan Uy, as well as his closest rivals Angie King and Tyson Sy. Joining the grid this year are Red Diwa, Tonypet Albano and Manny Eduque, while Master class champion Windy Imperial and Novice class champion Jamal Almario will also return.
A significant change to this year’s MSCC Miata Spec Series is that it will compete at two venues: the Clark International Speedway (CIS) and the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC). The first two legs, scheduled for April 15 and June 24, will take place at BRC, while the two finals, scheduled for August 26 and October 28, will be held at CIS. With a bigger grid and more venues to compete in, the 2023 season promises to be exciting for racers and fans alike.
Drawn from the world’s largest single-brand base racing series, the Mazda Spec Miata, the MSCC Miata Spec Series cars are built from new Mazda MX-5 Soft Tops. The MSCC Miata Spec series racing vehicles are built to ensure safe and fun racing competition and achieve a very high quality of fit and performance.
