Leading Oil Marketing Company (OMC), GOIL has embarked on a 10 kilometer walk in Accra as part of activities to celebrate Ghana’s 66th Independence Day.
It was themed ‘Good Energy for a Healthy Nation’ with the aim of creating awareness about the need to stay fit to contribute significantly to national development.
The walk which was led by the Managing Director/Group CEO of GOIL, Kwame Osei Prempeh; Chairman of the Board Reginald Daniel Laryea and GOIL Brand Ambassador Professor Azumah Nelson were also attended by over 1,500 people including management, staff, maintenance clubs and some partners corporate of GOIL.
The walk of more than two hours began at the El-Wak sports stadium after a short stretching exercise.
Enthusiastic participants walked through the aviation area, airport street, military hospital road 37 to the Jubilee House, before branching off to Crist Rei School.
The final leg of the walk saw the team head towards DVLA headquarters before finishing back at the El-Wak Sports Stadium. The climax was a 15-minute aerobic exercise.
In a brief remark, the Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Kwame Osei Prempeh, said that as a proud heritage of the country, GOIL joins the celebration of Ghana’s 66th Independence Day by pledging its continued commitment to serve consumers.
He noted that the celebration of the country’s 66th independence anniversary should always remind Ghanaians of the ability of Ghanaians, as shown by GOIL, to manage their own affairs.
He appealed to consumers to continue to patronize GOIL fuels and lubricants.
Chairman of the Board, Reginald Daniel Laryea emphasized the importance of staff and worker aptitude and noted that “GOIL is nothing without you. Make GOIL happy when you patronize our products because you believe in quality and in preserving the useful life of your vehicles… We thank you for making the right decision all along”.
GOIL Brand Ambassador Professor Azumah Nelson suggested regular exercise and urged the participants especially the staff and management of GOIL to continue to stay fit as it will help keep everyone away from doctors.
Prizes were awarded to people who distinguished themselves during the walk, including the hardiest participants aged 65-70, and others who walked hard over the 10km distance. The most important awards were the “Good Energy Award”, “the Brand Ambassador Award” and the “Group CEO Award”.
