While I wouldn’t necessarily call myself a bona fide collector, when I see a miniature facsimile of one of my favorite cars, I buy it, simple as that. Usually that means stopping in the die-cast car aisle every Target run, but when I was younger and had no bills to pay, it meant spending what little money I’d made as a teenager on 1/43 scale models self art , Ixo, HPI and the like. For today question of the dayI am asking you good people to post your favorite small car.
Personally, I have a hard time choosing one. I have two Sega Rally pick from my collection: the Lancia Stratos you see above and a Delta Integrale, both from HPI. I would love one ST205 Celica GT-Four WRC, but I haven’t seen any yet. However, I’ve had both models for years, and these days I’m a little more careful with my finances, so my spending tends to be on whatever the latest creation of Car Culture, Hot Wheels, when the pegs big stores are. It wasn’t cleared by scalpers anyway.
I recently got a couple of Mercedes that I really like: a 1995 C-Class DTM and a 300 SEL 6.8 AMG, two cars that I find hard to believe got the Hot Wheels treatment. I say this all the time, but kids today have it so damn good and they don’t even know it.
Maybe you only have one, and it’s your daily driver’s Matchbox; or maybe you’re an avid hobbyist with hundreds of rare finds. Whatever it is, take a photo and throw it in the comments, and we’ll compile a bunch into an Answer of the Day later this week.
