When developing the 2023 Corvette Z06, Chevrolet engineers could have easily compared it to the current crop of supercars, but instead decided to compare it to the Ferrari 458 Italia, possibly the naturally aspirated V8 engine biggest power plant that Ferrari has ever produced. Does this mean the new Z06 is a 458 killer?
Top Gear magazine’s Ollie Marriage recently headed to the US to put the new car through its paces, and while we were at it he also tested it alongside the 458 Italia and one of the best sports cars currently on sale, the Porsche 911 GT3. .
The review begins by focusing on the new Z06 that Top Gear tested in convertible form without the Z07 package. While this isn’t the fastest, lightest or most responsive Z06 variant on offer, Marriage is very impressed. He particularly likes the naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8, as well as the car’s various drive modes, all of which make a significant difference to the Z06’s performance.

But is it as good to drive as the 458 Italia? To find out, Top Gear got the keys to a silver 458 and tested it back-to-back with the Z06. The couple says it’s more exciting to drive than the Corvette, even though it has roughly 110 hp less. However, it weighs significantly less and is said to be the absolute sweet spot of Ferrari’s V8 supercar lineage.
Then there is the Porsche 911 GT3. To see how it works, Top Gear headed to a track and took the Corvette too. Both cars perform exceptionally well, but ultimately the reviewer says he prefers the GT3 given its slightly harsher characteristics.
