A 20-year-old woman who was a teacher’s aide died in a car crash in Alamance County. The Alamance-Burlington school system said Emma Leigh Rowland, of Graham, was a teacher’s aide at Eastlawn Elementary School. The North Carolina Highway Patrol said Rowland died after a truck failed to stop at a stop sign. The crash happened Tuesday morning just before 7:30 a.m. on Lindley Mill Road near Moores Chapel Cemetery Road. Troopers said Alex Michael Millager, 35, of Siler City was traveling eastbound on Moores Chapel Cemetery Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign and struck Rowland. The school system issued the following statement: “It is with great sadness that we share this of our own Eastlawn. Elementary school instructional aides were killed today in a car accident. We are deeply saddened and send our deepest sympathies Condolences to the family of Emma Rowland. Rowland has worked with our Kindergarten and 2nd grade students. “Counselors were at the school today and will be back tomorrow to assist them. our school community copes with this loss and helps them in the grieving process. If your student wants to speak with a counselor, let them know that a counselor is available. “Described by her principal as a team player who was always positive and student-centered, Ms. Rowland graduated from Alamance Burlington Early College High School and came to work at ABSS in April 2021”.
