With over 60 cars in the JR Garage collection, one bargain sports car in particular stands out from the crowd.
More than 60 cars and trucks reside in the JR Garage portfolio right now. Tim Burton, who runs a YouTube channel, Shmee150, gives an exclusive look at what Jeff and Chris have acquired. They briefly review Jeff’s high mileage Ferrari FF in Vampire Red with a Starlight headliner.
The majority Ferraris you will find that they will barely have more than 10,000 miles on them. Jeff drives this car regularly and has done it over 8 times. Of course, he also bought it at a fraction of the price most FF owners bought theirs for. JR Garage has a lot of cool and eccentric supercars and luxury cars, but the most desirable is a Prancing Horse with a locked manual gearbox.
Jeff from JR Garage shows off the Ferrari 575M
The standout car of all is the lock-up manual Ferrari 575M that lives in the hangar. The guys at JR Garage found this Ferrari 575 for sale with some front end damage in 2020. After an extensive search for parts, they finally put it back together. Jeff probably paid much less than the $92,500 average, even with repairs.
Ferrari only made approximately 2100 units of the 575M Maranello between 2002 and 2006. Between the 550 and 575 Ferrari, the highest recorded selling price was $923,969. This includes both series, with the 550 having about 3500 examples in the wild from 1996 to 2001. The lowest price was $51,700, and the most recent sale was $186,000. These figures are based on 415 sales tracked by Hagerty.
The 575M Maranello is V12 Gated Manual Excellence
The 575M is a fantastic Ferrari car that upset mid-engined types like the Testarossa. Not having the bulky V12 crammed into a tight rear frame also makes for a much easier engine to maintain. This could help reduce some of the expensive costs associated with maintaining a mid-engined Ferrari model. Just another point about how great it is to have a car.
This front-mounted V12 engine had a displacement bump from the outgoing Ferrari 550 Maranello. The 575M’s twelve cylinders would now move 5.75 L (instead of 5.5 L) with 515 horsepower. This equates to a top speed of 200 mph. This was due in part to an adaptive suspension system and an optional F1-style transmission.
What most enthusiasts would opt for, however, is the Ferrari 575M’s 6-speed manual transmission. It connects the driver with this fine sports car in a way that cannot be described. You’ll have to drive one to understand its greatness. The smooth and precise shifts will have you laughing just like Tim when Jeff lets him take the JR Garage 575M Maranello for a spin.
Check out the JR Garage car collection
In the hangar, apart from the shuttered Ferrari, there is a wide variety of cars dating back to a 1951 Mercedes 220. There is a Rolls-Royce Ghost, a Bentley Flying Spur, some Porsche Boxter projects and a rare Aston Martin Virage. some of the goodies hidden in there. There’s also a crashed Lamborghini Gallardo, a Fisker Karma, and of course a couple of Ferraris.
The real wreck of the hangar is a Nissan 370Z. Jeff took it because it is equipped with some rare attributes about these cars. A twin-turbo with only 2,800 original miles is absolutely unheard of in a 370Z. It’s like… we install a turbo kit. Now let’s park it. Who would?!
The JR Garage collection needs more than an airplane hangar
The tour then moves to the original JR garage, which is filled with a couple of Porsches on a lift, an old Jeep CJ and a Triumph Spitfire to make Tim feel right at home. A twin-turbo Mercedes-Benz S600 V12 sits in the corner, a few meters away from another V12 Benz.
Between those two is another Mercedes, an SLK 350 6-speed, which is technically a rare car in the U.S. Another Porsche Boxter also appears and was reportedly a total loss claimed by insurance due to engine damage . Turns out it was just a cracked oil pan and it works fine. These guys know how to find quality bargains.
In the parking lot, we find a Porsche Cayenne Turbo that was bought to replace a Ford F250 that they were using as a tow vehicle. The F250 was stolen and recovered, so they both live outside together now. Across the street a whole line of cars lives in the parking spaces they have taken. This includes everything from a Subaru WRX to a boring Honda Accord. Jeff also has more Porsche 944 and Boxter projects, among a few other cars.
