Massachusetts road crews were working early Wednesday to secure an MBTA rail car that separated from the truck carrying it. The incident happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 495 North in Chelmsford, just before Route 3. “A trucking company, contracted by CRRC. MA to ship new subway cars from Springfield to the MBTA, experienced an issue while delivering a single Orange Line car,” MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said in a statement. As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, the right travel and breakdown lanes were blocked as crews worked to clear the car. There are no reports of damage to the new subway car, Pesaturo said. Another new Orange Line car was successfully delivered to the MBTA’s Wellington facility, Pesaturo said. State police and the trucking company are investigating the incident. MassDOT said the northbound road may have to be temporarily closed after peak travel to remove the train car. State police said no one was injured.
