AIR INDIA Newark (USA)-Delhi flight (AI106) carrying nearly 300 passengers made an emergency landing at Sweden’s Stockholm airport on Wednesday after an oil leak was reported of your engine. However, all passengers on board the flight are safe.
Following the precautionary announcement by the cabin crew that the flight operated by a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft was diverting to Stockholm Airport in Sweden due to an oil leak in a of the engines, there was panic among the passengers.
A large number of fire engines were also stationed at the airport after the emergency landing.
“Air India flight AI 106 from Newark to Delhi developed a technical problem and diverted to Sweden (Stockholm) airport safely,” an Air India official told news agency ANI .
A senior official of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reported that the flight landed safely in Stockholm after the engine shut down following the oil leak.
“The Air India flight from Newark to Delhi was diverted to Stockholm, Sweden due to an oil leak from the aircraft’s engine,” ANI quoted a DGCA official as saying.
Air India has deployed Boeing 777-300ER aircraft for longer routes, especially to the United States.
During the ground inspection, it was found that oil was leaking from the engine two mast. However, the inspection is still ongoing, the official informed.
In a similar incident, an Air India flight traveling from New York to Delhi was diverted to London on Monday due to a medical emergency. The passenger was immediately taken to a London hospital from Heathrow Airport.
“Air India ground staff at Heathrow have been forced to evacuate the concerned person to hospital,” an Air India official told ANI.
