Tesla has reportedly narrowed down the location of its next production facility in Mexico.
Tesla’s drive toward ever-higher production numbers, combined with sky-high demand for its vehicles in North America, has brought the automaker to Mexico, where it plans to locate its new facility of vehicle production. However, until recently, it was unclear where Tesla’s new facility would be located in the country. Now, sources inside the deal have told the Mexican news site The Horizon Tesla has finally downsized the location of its production facility.
It is still found in the state of Nuevo Leon in northeastern Mexico, The Horizon ensures that the Tesla facility will be located in the industrial area of Santa Catarina. The source claims that the large plot of 250 to 400 hectares could be announced at the upcoming Tesla Investor Day early next month.
While the location has not been confirmed by Tesla or the governor of Nuevo Leon, The Horizon reports that the state official mentioned yesterday that “many” automakers were looking at the state to set up production facilities.
In addition to the fact that Tesla was already looking to establish the facility in Nuevo Leon, there are a couple of reasons to believe that this location was chosen.
First, the city of Santa Catarina is located just outside of Monterey and is already home to numerous other large industrial plants. Some of the highlights include Caterpillar’s production facility, Siemens’ office and manufacturing park, and lubricants manufacturer Lubral’s chemical plant.
Second, the city, and the subsequent location of the industrial park, has immediate access to two major highways, the first running between Monterey and Saltillo toward the nation’s capital, and the second heading directly north toward at the US border, where Tesla vehicles could easily be. imported
While rumors swirled earlier this month that a lack of reliable power could prompt Tesla to locate its facilities further south, the company would match similar moves by other notable automakers by staying more near the US border and simply building their own power generation systems.
With Tesla Investor Day just around the corner, answers to questions about the Mexico facility can finally be answered. Hopefully, wherever the facility is placed, it can be connected quickly and help Tesla’s mission to electrify mobility as soon as possible.
