The new Renault Nissan alliance has made new commitments for the Indian market
The new Renault Nissan alliance has made some new investments along with a renewed partnership for the Indian market. They have made an initial investment of Rs. 5300 million for the new projects. Here are four things to know about this revised alliance:
New cars
With this alliance, the launch of six new cars has been confirmed, three for each company. These three models will be built on the common alliance platforms. However, both brands will have their distinct design language.
The new products will include two new SUVs and a new electric car. Yes, there will be a next-generation Duster and a 7-seater version likely to be inspired by the Renault Bigster concept. Nissan will also share the same platform as we saw with the Duster Terrano in the Indian market.
International hub in Chennai
The alliance wants to make India the center of its exports. The new products will not only be sold in the domestic market but also exported to international markets. For this, the alliance will increase the utilization of its Chennai plant to 80 percent. With the increase in production, they will create up to 2000 new jobs at their plant.
Manufacture of carbon neutral vehicles
Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited has also announced its roadmap towards carbon neutrality. They have an ongoing program to transition to 100 percent renewable energy. They are also reducing energy consumption in the plant by 50 percent compared to today.
The plant currently gets more than 50 percent of its electricity from renewable energy, including solar, biomass and wind. The existing solar plant will be more than six times larger, expanding to a 14 MW plant from the current 2.2 MW.
New Association
Renault and Nissan are reorienting their stake in their joint operations. Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd (RNAIPL) will transition to 51% ownership by Nissan, 49% by Renault.
