You have done it! Come on, I have to show you the work I did on the roof. That way, it’s up.
Can I say something to start? Don’t worry, I actually have a solid track record of saying something nice to be fair. Take the last event I was at, for example, I just said one word and they told me it meant a lot. All he had to say was ‘Plethora’.
It’s just a small thing that has bothered me every time I see someone talking about MG cars, or when I see one advertised for sale. STOP BARGAINING THE BRAND AND THE MODEL. Not so tough people! MG is the make, B is the model. So it’s not MG MGB, MB GT, MG “whatever you can think of”, it’s simply MG followed by the model letter, k?
where was i Oh yes, the office.
2020 has been the year of absolutely nothing. NO WAIT, it’s been the Chinese Year of the Bat! Never mind the psychics, I think it’s the opticians who have a lot to answer for – twenty-twenty sight my background, eh? lol
The lack of car shows, trips away, or just opportunities to get in our cars and take them for a spin has been pretty depressing. So we’re gearing up for a very busy 2021 and working on something vital to all road trips – our Lyons Garages Cafe! Apparently Lyons Tea was already taken and they didn’t return our calls when we asked them for free tea, so we’ll do it ourselves.
No, no, that’s for real, so if you fancy a mini can of coffee bean oil, get in touch. Or get in touch even if it’s just to tell us it’s a great idea, hashtag local support and all that.
If you are involved in the coffee industry and want to participate, please email us friends. Also, and for everyone else, we’re still working on the tagline for this, so if you have any ideas, we’ll be happy to take them, use them as our own, and give you zero credit.
Almost halfway through this post and not a single mention of any garage cars. “What? Halfway?” I hear you yelling at your laptop/phone/cat. “Yes, I’m tired and lazy,” I call back.
After a very successful first season of “Conversations with Morris” where I posted two whole photos and messed around for a while, the Morris Minor is now all finished, bubble wrapped and ready to go home. Morris will be looked after and ridden by his owner… There is nothing else for people to do at the moment so there is no point in us doing all the work.
This gives me a new business idea…restore the shells, paint, polish and give the owner a “How To” guide to put it back together with their boxes of new parts. “Less time, same pay. A spoofer’s guide to getting rich”. Looks like I just got the next title for my new book. 2021 is going to be really huge.
You may have noticed a white MG A Roadster floating around. (“SEE IT”, as you might say if English is not your first language. Or you just don’t speak English well). Well, you can’t get enough of them to be honest and now here’s one for every day of the week.
Speaking of MGA, the Singaporean MGA… this is a real MGA headed to Singapore, it’s not some idea we’re playing by pretending we’re Singer Porsche and calling our cars where they’re headed, no . do not you worry. While ‘The Singapore Commission’ may sound great, I’m not sure we could keep a straight face if we started this trend here in Ireland. Imagine naming one of the cars we’re building here in the workshop ‘The Leitrim Commission’, ‘The Glounthaune Commission’ or ‘The Ballyhaunis Commission’. We’re building awesome cars, not good tractors.
Well, back to where we were…that MGA is finished and will soon be shipped to Singapore. in a box Fast and Furious esque. Now, you might be wondering why it was sent unfinished. great question Is it something to do with the tax situation in this country, or because the best part of restoring a car is putting all the new parts on yourself? I guess we’ll never know…
The Toyota Corolla AE86 is going well, there’s just been a lot… A LOT… of hand done panels, but we’re pretty much at the end of the metallurgy road now, so that means it can be painted soon .
What else do we have… There are some of our own cars that are pretty close to being finished, but we give priority to our customers’ cars. Not because we get paid, it’s honestly because we’re very solid. honest
Our next project is to uncover a couple of our own Minis that have been in hiding for far too long, dust them off and get them back on the road. He is currently making a parts list to build a Café Racer Mini… Interested?
We also have a couple of MGBs that are ready for restoration if you fancy putting your own stamp on a car. Well, we will do the printing, you can tell us the color.
Isn’t it strange that what used to be a very common car on the road is now starting to be considered a classic? So weird that these cars are getting older while I’m staying the same age. Things are strange.
Is true! I’ve been here in the office too long, I’m late for dinner. Let’s wrap it up… So, to quickly recap: We built cars, we’re going to pull out a Lyons Garages brand of coffee… and that’s really it! You’re probably feeling a little silly for having to sit through all of this now, aren’t you? Crazy how you feel and read this spoo..very educational blog.
As always, you’ll get the latest snaps on Facebook and Instagram. Feel free to send us a message and give us a like. It means a lot and you never know, it might even help us achieve our dream of becoming famous influencers and get some brand deals and free stuff.
Just before we sign off, let’s just say that as the world’s largest sports car restoration team here in Malibu, Ireland, we appreciate your feedback. We don’t take it, but we welcome it anyway.
Hope you guys are having a great week. Lyons Garages, Spanish Point, Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare is the address for all Christmas cards. Take care and God bless.
