Pakyong, February 10: The Geological Survey of India has made a historic discovery of lithium deposits in the Salal-Haimana area of Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir. The survey has estimated 5.9 million tonnes of inferred lithium resources (G3).
The Ministry of Mines has handed over 51 mineral blocks, including lithium and gold, to the respective state governments. Of these blocks, five belong to gold, while the others are associated with commodities like potash, molybdenum, base metals and others spread across 11 states and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

Aerospace: Lithium is used in the production of lightweight, high-strength alloys for use in aerospace applications. - Lubricants: Lithium-based grease is used as a lubricant in high-temperature, high-speed applications such as aerospace and automotive applications.
