Mumbai: Wadala police on Monday arrested two people for allegedly stealing an oil tanker that had 25,000 liters of base oil that was parked near the gate of BPT Hospital.
The incident happened on February 2, in the early hours of the morning and immediately after the complainant, Lalchand Gupta, 67, noticed the disappearance of the oil tanker, he approached the police and filed a complaint against an unknown person.
Tanker and oil worth Rs 22L
The aforementioned tanker was recently filled with base oil, which is mainly used in automotive products such as motor oils, gear lubricants and greases. The 25,000 liters had cost Rs. 17,80,421 to Gupta, while the oilman was worth Rs. 4,50,000 – total value of Rs. 22.30.421.
Subsequently, the police started the investigation by forming a team of four policemen, including a detection officer.
They began scanning CCTV footage, starting from the spot where the tanker disappeared. The accused skill somehow managed to unlock the vehicle and then drove it from the spot.
Looking at the footage, the police scanned 70-75 cameras which were mainly located on the city roads and neighboring areas such as Nashik Bypass, Mulund Toll Naka, Bhiwandi. Somewhere in Bhiwandi, the police spotted the stolen vehicle and then left Wadala to track the movement of the vehicle. At the place where they found the vehicle, at Dugad Phata in Bhiwandi, they started looking at nearby CCTVs and eventually spotted the alleged accused near a local hotel. Police checked with hotel staff and found the suspects had a meal there that they paid for online.
The accused are the residents of Ghatkopar
Using their details of the payment made, the police, using technical investigation, began to trace them. The cyber team informed them that they are currently underway, heading for Valsad in Gujarat.
After their location, the police managed to locate and arrest them, with the stolen vehicle.
They have been identified as Dashrath Devnarayan Yadan, 34, and Arman Ali Siddiquie, 20, both residents of Ghatkopar and drivers by profession.
They were then taken to the Wadala police station, after confessing to their crimes.
A case has been registered against the two accused for theft under the Indian Penal Code.
